Center Grove Football Field

Ray Skillman Auto Group provided the funds for a stadium renovation at Center Grove High School last year that included brand-new bleachers that doubled the seating capacity in the stadium as well as a new state-of-the-art press box that is six time the size of the previous one. The stadium was dedicated at the home opener as Ray Skillman Stadium.

“The generosity of Ray Skillman Automotive and Mr. & Mrs. Skillman has allowed us to increase and upgrade the seating available in our football stadium and build a new press box that will more than serve the needs of our coaches, staff, and guests for many years to come,” said Dr. Rich Arkanoff, Center Grove schools superintendent, in a news release".

This is the fourth year running that we have been a sponsor for The Drumstick Dash, a Thanksgiving Day Run that benefits Wheeler Mission (a downtown homeless shelter). In addition to a monetary donation, we provide a vehicle that is wrapped and used for promotion leading up to the event and then also serves as the ‘Pace Car’ at the event on Thanksgiving morning.

Ray Skillman Partners with The University of Indianapolis

Ray Skillman Auto Group has pledged $500,000 to replace the basketball floor and install more effective and efficient LED lighting in UIndy’s 4,000-seat Nicoson Hall, home to the Greyhounds since 1960. Skillman himself joined university President Robert Manuel on Thursday to announce the gift at halftime of the men’s victory over rival Bellarmine University, which improved UIndy’s season record to 14-0.

The renovation work, which includes other improvements to the facility, will begin immediately after the current season and should be completed in time for 2015-2016 play. In recognition of the gift, the competition floor will be dubbed “Skillman Court,” with a dedication ceremony taking place this fall.

“Our student-athletes certainly have earned these upgrades with their performance on the court and in the classroom,” Manuel said. “It is quite fitting that this support comes from Ray Skillman, who shares the university’s commitment to the residents and the economic vitality of this part of the city.”

In recent years, Ray Skillman Auto Group has provided more than $3 million to support schools, parks, food banks, youth sports and other charities, particularly on Indianapolis’ south side. Skillman entered the local market in 1979 with a single dealership on South U.S. 31 and since then has grown the company into one of the nation’s Top 100 dealers, with 17 franchises in 13 central Indiana locations representing such brands as Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda and Mitsubishi.

“The University of Indianapolis is a vital anchor in the community where we do business,” Skillman said. “We greatly admire the university’s dedication to its students and their families, and we’re delighted to partner with an institution that prepares new leaders for our city, state and nation.”

Ray Skillman Partners with The Metropolitan School District of Perry Township

Ray Skillman Auto Group, MSD of Perry Township and the Perry Township Education Foundation Announce Partnership The Metropolitan School District of Perry Township and the Perry Township Education Foundation (PTEF) are pleased to announce a long-term partnership with Ray Skillman Auto Group to benefit the students in Perry Township schools.

Beginning in 2012, owner Ray Skillman has pledged to donate $100,000 per year for a total of $900,000 to underwrite the cost of the installation of a synthetic turf field at Perry Stadium in the Metropolitan School District of Perry Township. In an effort to inspire the Perry Township community to invest philanthropically in its schools PTEF announces the Ray Skillman Challenge.

With Ray Skillman's gift PTEF and its leadership will embark on a campaign to raise an additional $1 million dollars to benefit the classrooms in Perry Township schools.
Dr. Thomas J. Little, Jr., MSDPT Superintendent, stated, "Our parents and residents without children in school supported Perry Township in the referendum to fix roofs and replace worn out heating systems. Now, our business community is stepping forward and supporting Perry Township with upgrading their athletic facilities and their fine arts programs. This financial support from our parents, residents, and business community will assist the leadership in Perry Township to attract new families moving into the Indianapolis area who are school shopping comparing program and facility offerings. We are thankful for Ray Skillman and his community minded spirit".

"The Ray Skillman Auto Group is looking forward to a long term partnership with the MSD of Perry Township and we are excited about the opportunity to serve the students and families of Perry Township", said Ray Skillman. "Athletics and extra-curricular activities are an important part of a well-rounded education. Through our partnership with Perry Township Schools, we are ensuring that the district has a safe athletic facility".

Synthetic turf fields provide a stadium with a surface that can be used with unlimited frequency for various sports (football, soccer, lacrosse, etc.) plus extracurricular events (band competitions, concerts, drill teams, intra-murals, etc.) Even with frequent usage and inclement weather, synthetic fields remain consistent for major events.

The current MSDPT competition football field has been a true facility concern. In the past, the lack of water on our turf has left the field brown and hard. The fact that two high schools share this field every Friday night places a great deal of stress on the grass.

"On behalf of the Perry Township community we are honored to work with Mr. Skillman and his staff in providing this upgrade to our facility", said Perry Township School Board President, Ed Denning. "This is a wonderful gift to our community from a caring and generous business leader".

2012 Clothe-A-Child Program

Every year, Ray Skillman Auto Group employees elect to have an amount automatically withdrawn from their weekly paycheck to be donated to the Cloth-a-Child program. At the end of the year, the cumulative amount is matched by Ray himself and needy children in central Indiana are provided with clothing, shoes, winter wear and toys.

“Kinder Elves” and “Leader Elves” from Rosa Parks Elementary help shop for the Ray Skillman Clothe-a-Child program. Fifth graders are paired up with Kindergartners to shop with the assistance of an adult. The 5th grader guides the Kindergarteners in a ‘Wants and Needs’ shopping experience. They have a list of items that a child would want and need, along with a budget for each child. They must make choices on what gifts to buy based on asking the question “Is this something the child needs or wants?” Then they determine what is most important. At first the children want to buy all toys, but the lesson teaches them about other children that need the things they already have and may take for granted.

Lindsey Smith is a teacher at Rosa Parks and is one of the original elves. Her dad, Tony Miller, is a Mitsubishi Manager for Ray Skillman. Lindsey shopped as a child with Tony and his wife. When she was in a position to share the lessons she learned as a child, Lindsey started bringing the kids from Rosa Parks for a field trip. This is the seventh year that Lindsey’s class has participated and is one of the highlights of the program.

Volunteers set up an assembly line at the Ray Skillman Auto Museum to wrap the hundreds of gifts load them into the "sleigh" to be distributed!
