GMC has pulled the wrap off its next-generation half-ton, and the changes go far deeper than a new grille. The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 brings two brand-new V8 engines, a reworked interior, and the broadest Super Cruise availability the truck has ever offered to drivers around Southport, Indiana. First deliveries are expected before year-end.
Ray Skillman opened on South US 31 back in 1979, and we have been selling GMC trucks from this stretch of road ever since. Three GMC Dealer of the Year awards later, a redesign this significant still gets us fired up. Here is what has been confirmed.
The headline is the sixth-generation Small Block V8, offered in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements. GMC calls the 6.6L the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class, and it comes standard on Denali Ultimate. Both engines got new combustion, cooling, and control systems plus a new fuel-injection setup, which should keep power delivery predictable whether you are crawling over rocks or merging with a trailer in tow.
Below the V8s sits the enhanced TurboMax four-cylinder with what GMC calls best-in-class standard torque, and the Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel remains the only diesel in the segment. That matters if you tow long distances. All four powertrains route through a 10-speed automatic, and detailed horsepower, torque, and towing figures have not yet been published.
Interiors were redone on every trim, top to bottom. Denali Ultimate leads with more than 60 inches of combined screens: a 16.3-inch center display that articulates to reveal hidden storage behind it, a 12.2-inch driver information center, an 11.5-inch passenger screen with a retracting cover, a 15-inch head-up display, and an 8.5-inch rear camera mirror for when the bed is loaded high.
The new MultiPro center console folds open into a flat work surface with USB charge ports underneath, turning the cab into a mobile office. Real wood accents are available; forged wood shows up on Denali Ultimate, and a panoramic sunroof is optional. Bose Premium Series audio adds 16 speakers, two of them in the front head restraints.
Every Sierra 1500 comes with a long list of driver assistance features, several of which are new. Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, and Reverse Automatic Braking join the standard set, alongside adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert, and blind zone steering assist.
Super Cruise is the bigger story. It is standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate, available on Elevation, and it now works while towing on more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads. Handing the wheel over on a long haul with a trailer attached changes how a work week feels.
Most of the trucks we sell split their weeks between job sites and the loop, then get hitched to something on Saturday. The I-465 run at rush hour is where Super Cruise earns its keep, and the Duramax suits anyone pulling a camper or boat south without planning the trip around fuel stops.
For drivers dealing with a hard freeze one week and construction barrels the next, the AT4 and AT4X trims bring traction hardware that goes well past a badge. AT4X rides on 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires with a 2-inch lift, Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, and e-locking differentials front and rear.
Six trims make up the lineup, and the familiar SLE and SLT names are gone. Here is how the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 trims separate based on what has been confirmed.
| Trim | Built For | Super Cruise | Interior Colorway | Confirmed Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|---|
